The equestrian status of Theodore Roosevelt which once stood outside the American Museum of Natural History was a stark embodiment of the white supremacy that Roosevelt espoused and promoted. It was an affront to all who pass it on entering the museum, but especially to African and Native Americans. A monument that appears to glorify racial hierarchies has no place in our cities or our cultural institutions.
